Statistics published this week by Homes England revealed a 12% increase in completed houses from 2024-2025 and a 5% increase in new starts, compared to the same period the previous year.

Work started on 38,308 new houses and 36,872 new homes were completed between April 1 last year and March 31 in 2025. This is fantastic news for housebuilding and the economy as a whole, which benefits greatly from a thriving construction industry.

At the heart of this uptick has been affordable homes, which represented 79% of all new starts and 77% of all completions. This can be attributed to the Affordable Homes Programme, which is running from 2021 to 2026 and has exceeded targets.
